ARTSPEAK or HALF OF BLANK or ARTY BOLLOCKS GENERATOR or BLACK SQUARE LOL explores the relationship between the Military-Industrial Complex and death.
Inspired by a visit I made to Richard Serra's Drawing Retrospective (and specifically Serra's art work entitled Blank) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011, and with influences as diverse as Machiavelli and Kazimir Malevich, new tensions are created from both traditional and modern layers merged and flattened into one as in Photoshop.
Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the endless oscillation of meaning. What starts out as hope soon becomes manipulated into a tragedy of power, leaving only a sense of nihilism and the dawn of a new beginning.
As momentary derivatives become transformed through diligent and academic practice, the viewer is left with a hymn to the possibilities of our era.
