SAINT JOHN'S GATE
Clerkenwell is on the boundary of the City of London. Saint John's Gate is a very peculiar place with various seals placed in strategic locations on and around the gate itself. It is mostly a Victorian renovation, but its seals and history as a Knights Hospitaller outpost is intriguing.
The Knights Hospitaller were very similar to the Knights Templar, both groups having been crusaders in Jerusalem in the Middle Ages. The Knights Hospitaller became the Knights of Malta by 1834.
