Arthur Hughes' Ophelia has long been my favourite Pre-Rafaelite painting. Although the Millais version is more dramatic and famous, I find the Hughes painting evokes genuine pathos with its subtle, refined, twilight atmosphere. 

 Ophelia by Arthur Hughes is on permanent display at the Manchester Art Gallery.
