Beauty Disarming Love
This is my third attempt at figurative painting: Beauty Disarming Love! It's based on a classical story of Aphrodite / Venus tricking Cupid / Eros into dropping his weapons. She manifests butterflies or other beautiful distractions as a ruse to draw his attention away from his love-spreading.
Check out the detail shots of the butterflies, and Beauty's body, and the bow, arrow, and quiver below.
Following are three traditional representations of the myth. The third is a rare Art Nouveau silverware set in which Aphrodite / Venus can be seen holding a bow in her left hand while Eros / Cupid holds an arrow in his hand and struggles to regain his bow.
